New interim director at Knoxville juvenile detention center set to step in after whistleblower investigation

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. — 10News sat down with the new interim director of the Richard L. Bean Juvenile Justice Center after months of scrutiny at the facility.

Richard Bean led the center bearing his name for more than 50 years. He announced he’d retire after an employee reported severe medication mismanagement to state agencies.

The center’s nurse told agencies that medications at the facility often go missing, even narcotics. She told 10News there had even been instances of medication going to the wrong child…
