Air Quality Alert issued for coastal counties due to ozone levels

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) has issued an Air Quality Alert for coastal Michigan counties Thursday.

The advisory was issued due to elevated levels of ozone, which is expected to be in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG, Orange AQI) range.

Several counties in our area are affected, including: Allegan, Kent, Muskegon, Ottawa, and Van Buren.

State officials are recommending that people avoid strenuous outdoor activities during this time, especially those with heart disease and respiratory diseases like asthma.
