New restaurant, patisserie from Caribbean Ice Company baker opens in downtown New Iberia

There’s a new restaurant, patisserie and full-service bar on New Iberia’s Main Street. Lizzie’s, a new concept from Caribbean Ice Company baker Elizabeth Shensky Hansen, opened July 10 with pastries in the morning and dinner at night — with the promise of much more to come.

Lizzie’s morning service features coffee and a full complement of croissants, cakes, brownies and other treats from Hansen, a pastry chef who has trained in Florence, Italy, with stints working at Soho House in New York and in a Cape Cod restaurant. She is especially well known for her almond croissants, a pastry that is difficult to find at other Acadiana-area bakeries.

She met her husband, chef Erik Hansen, in Massachusetts. After moving back to Louisiana to work at Elizabeth Shensky Hansen’s family restaurant, Caribbean Ice Company, the couple quickly became known for their talents in the kitchen. Erik Hansen’s spaghetti and meatballs in particular gained a following across the region. Lizzie’s dinner menu will feature entrees such as short rib ragu, steak frites, Parisian gnocchi and salads, soups, sandwiches and burgers.

Elizabeth Shensky Hansen’s parents, Skip and Pam Shensky, opened Caribbean Ice Company in New Iberia in 2001 to provide sno-cones and other cooling summer treats, and drive-thru meals like burgers and barbecue.
