U.S. Coast Guard, Mexican Navy stop suspected smuggling attempt near San Diego

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Authorities from both the U.S. and Mexico partnered together to stop a vessel suspected of smuggling people off of the coast of San Diego over the weekend.

Members of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Robert Ward encountered a vessel traveling north from the waters of Mexico into U.S. territory about 11 miles southwest of Point Loma around 4 p.m. Sunday.

The vessel was described as an approximately 24-foot center-console boat.
