City of Chula Vista declines to declare a state of emergency after days without trash pickup

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Since Wednesday, garbage truck drivers have neglected to pick up trash in Chula Vista as they strike in solidarity with picketers in Boston.

On Monday, Mayor John McCann called an emergency special city council meeting to outline a plan to address the issue where he discussed the possibility of declaring a state of emergency, which would allow city workers to help pick up trash as Republic Services workers continue striking.

The city manager declined to call a state of emergency, adding right now the city doesn’t have the staff to support trash pickup services…
