BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Crime in Birmingham increased by 7.6 percent in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, according to data from the Birmingham Police Department. Despite the overall rise, the city saw a significant decrease in homicides, which dropped by 51.3 percent, from 76 to 37.
Violent crime rose slightly by 2.1 percent, driven primarily by a 9.7 percent increase in aggravated assaults. Robberies decreased by 8.3 percent.
