2.4 magnitude earthquake recorded in South Carolina Lowcountry

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A small earthquake was reported Wednesday morning in the Lowcountry, according to the U.S. Geological Survey and the South Carolina Emergency Management Division.

The 2.4 magnitude earthquake happened at 9:57 a.m. about 1.2 miles west of Sangaree in Berkeley County, the USGS said.

Small earthquakes are frequent in the Lowcountry and Midland areas of the state. There was a 2.3 magnitude quake in April near the town of Elgin in Kershaw County. A 2.2 magnitude tremor was recorded in March 2024 in Richland County…
