Over 100 pounds of cannabis seized during Oakland traffic stop

(KRON) — A driver that was pulled over Monday by the California Highway Patrol in Oakland for going 15 miles per hour over the speed limit was found to be illegally transporting more than 100 pounds of cannabis in garbage bags, authorities said.

The traffic stop occurred around 12:15 a.m. on Interstate 80 east of Ashby Avenue. The driver of the Buick SUV was allegedly going 80 miles per hour in a 65 miles per hour zone.

CHP officers smelled a “strong odor” of cannabis during the stop, authorities said, and saw five large black trash bags in the rear cargo area. A search under probable cause was conducted, which uncovered approximately 111 pounds of cannabis.

“While personal cannabis use and possession are legal in California, strict regulations apply to its commercial cultivation, transportation, and distribution,” CHP said. “Individuals engaged in these activities must possess proper licensing and documentation in compliance with the law.”…
