JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (CBS12) — A family stranded on a rainy Florida highway with no working phone and children in the backseat got an unexpected rescue — from a patrol car’s bumper.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) said while driving through District 2 and maneuvering through heavy rain on Monday, Officer K. Waters spotted a disabled SUV dangerously close to moving traffic on a busy stretch of roadway. Inside the vehicle was a family — with children in the backseat — trapped without a working phone and unable to move their car out of the way.
Recognizing the imminent threat of a collision on slick roads, the sheriff’s office said Officer Waters sprang into action. Using the patrol vehicle’s bumper, JSO said the officer carefully pushed the SUV to safety, away from highway-speed traffic. He then remained with the family until a tow truck and their relatives arrived…
