Police commission contention unfolds at Lansing City Council

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Members of the Lansing City Council received a letter from a local labor union for first responders criticizing a member of the Board of Police Commissioners.

The Capital City Labor Program asked the council not to reappoint Farhan Omar to the police commission.

“There is further comments about how the police budget continues to grow to fund positions,” said Councilmember Brian Jackson, who recounted Omar’s recent Facebook history during a Monday night meeting. “But there is further comment how those positions that get funded don’t get filled, and there is call for change.”…
