Fayette County teacher indicted in deadly hit-and-run

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — The Glendover Elementary School teacher accused of hitting and killing a pedestrian during an alleged drunken drive to school is facing new charges.

Just before 7 a.m. on April 16, Joshua Hampton, 32, of Lily, was hit by a vehicle near the intersection of Georgetown Road and Mercer Road. The Lexington Police Department said Jaime Caldwell, 29, was allegedly behind the wheel.

She was arrested at Glendover Elementary School, where the LPD said she worked as a teacher. Police said Caldwell smelled of alcohol, and her vehicle showed signs of damage. According to court documents, Caldwell’s blood alcohol content (BAC) was 0.278, over three times the legal limit.

She reportedly told law enforcement that she heard a “thud” while driving to work on Wednesday morning but didn’t realize she’d allegedly hit a person, nor could she explain what the sound could have been…
