Shelby County Office of Re-Entry director sues federal officials for right to own a gun

The director of Shelby County’s Office of Re-Entry, who had previously been convicted of felonies himself, is suing U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Acting Director Daniel Driscoll over his right to own a firearm.

DeAndre Brown, now 50, pleaded guilty to federal conspiracy to financially defraud First Tennessee Bank (now First Horizon) in 2003. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison and has paid nearly $40,000 in restitution. In state court, Brown pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault in 1998, forgery in 1999, and then theft of property between $1,000 and $10,000, forgery and burglary of a motor vehicle in 2003.
