Jack in the Box makes a grand return to Chicago area after decades-long hiatus

PLAINFIELD, Ill. (WGN) — Jack in the Box made its return to the Chicago area Monday after a decades-long absence from the region.

The West Coast fast food chain, which announced a 12-unit franchising deal throughout the Chicago area in September 2024, with the first wave of locations set to open throughout 2025, officially marked its homecoming Monday, July 14, with the grand opening in southwest suburban Plainfield.

The new location at 2101 Rt. 59, will include 24-hour operations featuring dine-in, drive-thru, and mobile ordering capabilities, as well as a full menu with Jack in the Box’s signature burgers, tacos, chicken sandwiches, milkshakes, breakfast items, and late-night dining options.

Jack in the Box first opened in the Chicago area in the late 1960s and then relocated to the southwestern United States in the 1980s to focus on expansion.
