Lowcountry leaders reflect on Ravenel Bridge 20 years later

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) –The iconic Ravenel Bridge turns 20 years old Wednesday July 16th, a landmark that has become synonymous with Charleston.

Everyday thousands of people cross the bridge, driving, walking or biking. “It’s an incredible piece of engineering. It’s iconic. When you see a picture or drawing or rendering of the bridge you know where it is in Charleston, South Carolina,” said Charleston City Councilmen Mike Seekings. “I think it means a lot to us in terms of what it symbolizes but most importantly, how we get around, how we move, and it shows we can do it. A small community can have big ideas.”
