Groundhog’s wild journey to Fresno started with a raid in Oregon

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The Fresno Chaffee Zoo’s newest groundhog had a journey across state lines to get to Fresno, a journey that involved a four-day search warrant and the seizure of over 300 animals in Oregon.

According to the Oregon Humane Society, the groundhog which is now in the Chaffee Zoo’s care, was rescued following an investigation into West Coast Game Park Safari, a now-closed roadside attraction in Bandon, Oregon.

On May 15, 2025, Oregon State Police and partner agencies, including the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, served multiple search warrants at the site. Officials say the search warrants were the result of a lengthy criminal investigation into the facility’s operations…
