Homeless man on pre-trial release arrested for stealing bike from sleeping man at GRACE

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jamaine Davonta Fairley, 24, was arrested early yesterday morning and charged with robbery and battery after allegedly waking a 76-year-old man at GRACE Marketplace and making him unlock his bicycle so he could steal it; Fairley was last arrested in May and was released in June for outpatient mental health treatment.

At about 3:27 a.m. on July 15, a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to GRACE Marketplace (3055 NE 28th Drive), where the victim said he had been sleeping next to his bicycle, valued at $697, and had locked it to his backpack. He said Fairley woke him by kicking him in the side and yelling at him to give him the bicycle…
