StormTrack 3: Hot & humid Tuesday, stormy Wednesday ahead of pattern shift

(KIMT) — Some lingering wildfire smoke is being noted Tuesday morning, but conditions should be improving throughout the day. Tuesday morning’s air is considered “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups”, so the elderly, young children, and those with asthma or any other respiratory issue should limit their outdoor time.

With another hot and humid day Tuesday, the atmosphere will be able to disperse most, if not all, of the remaining smoke at the surface during the afternoon and evening peak heating hours. Expect high temperatures to climb into the mid to upper 80s under a mostly sunny sky.

Breezy south winds will gust up to 20-25 MPH at times through Tuesday afternoon and evening, resulting in a surge of southerly moisture into southeast Minnesota and North Iowa. Dew points are likely to reach the low 70s.

With this amount of heat and humidity, heat index values will likely climb into the low 90s for the second day in a row. Make sure you are staying hydrated and as cool as possible Tuesday!

Heading into Tuesday night, the forecast gets a bit more interesting. A sagging cold front will eventually stall just to our northwest Tuesday night, sparking storms along the corridor of lowest pressure.
