New Orleans City Council Accuses 1201 Canal Street Owners of Misrepresenting Intentions, Threatens Action

The New Orleans City Council has publicly expressed their indignation after learning that the owners of 1201 Canal Street apparently misrepresented their intentions to the Council earlier this month. According to a joint statement released by the Council, the body is outraged that property representatives sought an exemption on June 12,, claiming there would be no reduction in long-term housing as a result of this change.

In contrast to their assertions, it has been reported that several tenants were issued eviction notices shortly thereafter. This action clearly appears to contravene the assurances given to the Council, which was under the impression that the exemption would not lead to decrease in housing availability.
