AlbanyMed hosts summer boot camp for high school students

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Albany Medical Center’s three-day medical educational program wrapped up on Wednesday. The summer boot camp for high school students is an opportunity for young people to get exposure to different career paths in the medical field.

This was the fifth EMmersion Boot Camp hosted by the Albany Med Emergency Department. Employees volunteered their time to immerse 25 young people in careers they might not have otherwise been exposed to.

The Diversity, Recruitment, Education, and Allyship in Medicine team – also known as the D.R.E.A.M. Team – was co-founded by Physician Assistant Pamela Young and Attending Physician Boahema Pinto.

“We wanted to offer medicine to kids who have either been historically underrepresented or didn’t have access that others had, perhaps some socioeconomic disadvantages. And we wanted it to be free and we had willingness and volunteers,” said Young…
