BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Families and individuals from the Birmingham community gathered at Mountain Top Church Tuesday to help “Rise against Hunger” package 20,000 meals in two hours for children impacted by food insecurity worldwide.
More than 200 volunteers gathered in the lobby of the church putting together more than 3,000 meal bags in two hours. The meal bags, which contains rice and soy, a vegetable blend with spices, and a vitamin packet can feed six people.
Partnership manager Rachele Matijasich says Rise against Hunger, a nonprofit is in about 78 different countries right now including Kenya, India and Haiti. They work with nonprofits in those countries to identify communities experiencing food insecurity.
