North Charleston woman indicted in tax fraud investigation

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCSC) – The South Carolina Department of Revenue says a Charleston County woman was among 31 across the state indicted by grand juries in a tax fraud investigation.

Abigail McKelvey, 33, of North Charleston, is charged with willful preparation of a fraudulent tax return; furnishing a false tax document and obtaining goods by false pretenses of a value of more than $2000 but less than $10,000, SCDOR officials said in a release.

The investigation focused on what the agency described as “a pattern of fraud involving milk and ammonia tax credits,” a release states. Court documents allege that the defendants claimed the refundable tax credits to which they were not entitled on tax returns for tax years 2021-2024…
