Trial for Derek Rosa, Hialeah teen accused in mom’s killing, pushed back to 2026

The trial for Derek Rosa, the Hialeah teen accused of stabbing his mother to death with a kitchen knife, has been pushed back to January 2026 from its September start date.

Rosa, just 13 at the time of the killing, faces a charge of first-degree murder in the death of his mother, Irina Garcia, to which he allegedly confessed. He is currently being held at Metro West Detention Center, an adult facility, while awaiting trial.
