Big Bend, South Georgia gears up for 2025-2026 school year with back-to-school events✏️🎒

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The 2025-2026 school year is quickly making its way to the front of the class!

To help students and parents prepare for the upcoming school term, WCTV has compiled a list below of back-to-school events happening in the Big Bend and South Georgia. This list will continue to be updated as we learn more.

Big Bend

Leon County

  • KidsStreet Urgent Care is expected to hold its free Back to School Bash on Friday, July 25, from 4 to 6 p.m. Over 400 backpacks filled with school supplies will be given out on a first come, first serve basis. Games, activities and more will also be in attendance.
  • The 6th annual James Coleman Drive-Thru Backpack Giveaway and Food Distribution is set to take place Saturday, July 26, from 9 a.m. to noon at Bond Elementary School. Backpacks filled with school supplies will be distributed to elementary and middle school students. Those interested must register prior to the event.
  • The Family Worship and Praise Center is set to hold its 8th annual Shoes 4 School giveaway on Sunday, August 3 at 9 a.m. at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center. They plan to giveaway free new shoes to students in need.
  • Milk Me Treats is set to hold its 3rd annual Packs 4 Success on Saturday, August 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Restoration Place. They are geared up to serve 300 students with free backpacks, school supplies, hairstyles and haircuts and more.
  • Whole Child Leon is set to host its 4th annual Jumpstart 2 Success event, a free celebration offering backpacks, school supplies, community resources and more for students, It takes place Saturday, August 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Lively Tech.
  • Rick the Barber is expected to hold his 22nd annual Back to School Hair Cuts and Backpack Giveaway on Sunday, August 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Ace Hardware Woodville. Free food, backpacks, supplies and haircuts will be provided.
  • Jefferson County
  • Jefferson County Schools is holding a back-to-school fair Saturday, August 9, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Jefferson K-12 School, located at 50 David Road. Lunch, free school supplies, vaccines, Second Harvest food boxes and more will be provided.
  • Wakulla County
  • The Fully Refreshed and Empowering Students Holistically (FRESH) is holding a back-to-school backpack giveaway and drive-thru distribution Saturday, July 19, at Coast Charter School in St. Marks. From 9 a.m. to noon, families will be able to receive a backpack and school supplies.
  • Gadsden County
  • The Farmer Foundation, Inc. is set to hold a Back-to-School Backpack and Supplies Giveaway for both teachers and students on Saturday, August 2, from 11 to 2 p.m. at Carter-Parramore Academy, located at 631 S. Stewart Street. To register, Click the link to register.

South Georgia

  • Thomas County
  • Thomas County Sheriff’s Office Sheriff Tim Watkins is expected to distribute bookbags for back to school on Saturday, July 19, from 10 a.m. to noon at 1112 Lester Street.
  • Lowndes County
  • The City of Valdosta will hold its annual Back to School Community Block Party on Saturday, July 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Unity Park. Free haircuts, supplies, food and more will be in attendance.
  • The Valdosta Mall is set to hold its Back to School Kids Fest on Tuesday, July 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. ids will have a chance to win back-to-school supplies such as bookbags, folders and more.
  • Lanier County
  • The Lanier County Family Connection is set to hold a community day back-to-school event on August 2 at 9 a.m. at Lanier County Elementary School. The event will provide school supplies, free haircuts, a mana drop and other resources will be available.
  • Grady County
  • Grady County Family Connection will hold its Back to School Blitz on Saturday, July 26, beginning at 8 a.m. at the Cairo High School gym.
  • Colquitt County
  • The Omega Church of God will hold its first annual Back 2 School Bash with free hotdogs, snacks, backpack door prizes, school supply giveaways, face painting and more in attendance on Saturday, July 26, at 10 a.m.
