The po-boy is an iconic Louisiana sandwich, and it’s one of those creations that gets better the more it evolves.
The hamburger po-boy, with a perfectly cooked patty and dressings in a French bread bun, can give your backyard burger a run for its money. A bánh mì sandwich, colloquially known across Louisiana as a “Vietnamese po-boy,” earns the moniker with fresh meats, produce and southeast Asian flavors in a hot, chewy loaf of French bread. Local pizza shops are even nailing the po-boy game, with spots like Deano’s offering po-boys that give the restaurant’s famous tavern-style pizzas a run for their money.
Now, Lafayette residents and visitors can experience the best, most varied po-boys the region has to offer with an easy-to-navigate Po-boy Trail, produced by Lafayette Travel. The self-guided trail, found on the Lafayette Travel website, features more than 70 restaurants and specialty shops across Lafayette Parish.
The Po-boy Trail also lists a few notable spots around Acadiana, such as Bon Creole in New Iberia and Mama’s Fried Chicken in Opelousas. Bánh mìs appear in the ‘po-boy adjacent’ section of the Po-boy Trail, alongside other notable Louisiana sandwiches like muffalettas (on the menu at Cedar Grocery and Whiskey & Vine in Lafayette) and Cubanos (at Cafe Habana City).
“The Po-boy Trail is a fun, flavorful way to explore the creativity of our local chefs and restaurants while celebrating a Louisiana classic,” said Ben Berthelot, president and CEO of Lafayette Travel…
