Albuquerque murder suspect arrested in 2018 cold case

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Detectives arrested a suspect accused of a 2018 murder in Albuquerque with the help of the suspect’s ex-wife, police say.

Investigators say Uriah Smith shot and killed Donalda Shortman near Central and Tramway in 2018. In April 2025, Smith’s ex-wife allegedly told them he admitted to hurting a woman on the night of Shortman’s murder.

Police took another look at security video from that night, which helped them make a case. They tracked Smith down in Juarez, Mexico, leading to his arrest…
