A wildfire broke out early Wednesday morning in the Russian Jack Springs Park area, sending thick, dark smoke into the Anchorage sky.
According to the Anchorage Fire Department, the fire was first reported by an Anchorage Police officer who was going off-duty, as well as the Merril Field Tower. Propane tanks in the nearby encampment began popping as firefighters worked to gain access to the blaze.
