Dawn Raid at West Norriton Grocery: ICE Detains 14 Workers

Early Wednesday, federal agents executed a court-authorized search warrant at the Super Gigante International Food Market, a bustling hub for Norristown’s Latino community. According to an ICE spokesperson, “During the execution of the search warrant, 14 individuals were encountered who did not have legal status to be in the United States. These 14 individuals were taken into ICE custody pending removal proceedings.”

Community advocates described the show of force as unprecedented. Unides Para Servir Norristown, an immigrant-rights nonprofit, warned locals via Facebook that roughly 25 ICE vehicles—“with the sole purpose of intimidating and attacking our families”—converged on the market at dawn, marking one of the largest single deployments in recent weeks. “Norristown is under attack,” the group posted.
