Homelessness rates rising in Kentucky

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — In Kentucky, there’s been an increase in the number of people experiencing homelessness since last year. Kentucky’s unhoused population rose from over 5,200 to almost 5,800 in 2024, according to the Kentucky Housing Corporation.

Wayside Christian Mission’s Chief Operating Officer Nina Moseley said while their shelter is typically almost always full, what she’s seen backs up the data.

“I have seen an increase though with ‘white flag’, with folks that need places to stay and we have seen people. We know there’s more people along the streets that are trying to get into places,” she said. “So there has been a slight increase, yes.”…
