LOUDON COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — A teenager is dead after a crash involving a tractor-trailer on I-40 near Buttermilk Road in Loudon County.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol released its preliminary report on the crash that took place at 2:40 p.m. on July 15. A tractor-trailer with two trailers, a 1997 Geo Tracker and a 2017 Mercedes GLC 300 were going east on I-40 when the tractor-trailer stopped due to congestion from highway maintenance. As the Geo Tracker was slowing, the Mercedes stuck it in the rear, pushing the car into the tractor-trailer’s back trailer.
One dead after single-vehicle crash in Sevier County
As a result of the crash, the 17-year-old driver of the Geo Tracker died, and the driver of the Mercedes was injured. The report states that the 17-year-old was not wearing a seatbelt. In addition, charges are listed as pending the outcome of the investigation against the driver of the Mercedes.
