NTSB report after conductor suffers serious injuries at Lambert’s Point Yard

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) recently completed its investigation into a 2024 incident that left a conductor with serious injuries at Lambert’s Point.

According to the report, on Aug. 27 just after 10 p.m., an unnamed Norfolk Southern Railway conductor suffered serious injuries after he was struck by an unsecured railcar.

An investigation into the incident found that, while trying to couple railcar 19 and 20 and asking for a three-step protection — which secures railcars by applying locomotive brakes, placing the reverser in neutral and opening the generator field switch to prevent movement of the railcars — railcar 20 rolled down and struck him…
