Photographer’s sunrise walk rescues 300-pound loggerhead turtle in Martin County

MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A sunrise stroll turned into a sea turtle rescue mission when a beach photographer spotted a 300-pound loggerhead wedged in the rocks.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) said on July 16, a photographer taking sunrise photos spotted a massive loggerhead sea turtle trapped among shoreline rocks in Martin County, near the House of Refuge.

The adult female — estimated to weigh around 300 pounds — was unable to free herself until help arrived from the FWC and Martin County Fire Rescue (MCFR)…
