CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) – West Nile Virus has been detected in Chatham County, and experts are urging the public to take extra precautions.
The first positive sample of the year was collected from a trap in midtown Savannah on July 7. The University of Georgia confirmed the result a week later and the public was notified the next day.
“When we find the first one, it feels more needle in a haystack kind of scenario,” Chatham County Mosquito Control Director Ture Carlson said. “So, we’re still at the beginning of July with this positive and it has plenty of time to build.”…
