Traffic Advisory: Increased police presence for Syracuse Nationals

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — To ensure safety and enjoyment at the upcoming Syracuse Nationals event on July 18 through July 20 at the New York State Fairgrounds, expect to see increased police presence.

The Syracuse Police Department, Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, and New York State Police will significantly expand patrols in and around the event.

Safety Messages to Keep in Mind:

  • Expect to see an increased police presence with more patrols and law enforcement visible throughout the weekend
  • There will be a zero-tolerance policy enforced for burnouts, reckless driving, and driving under the influence, which will result in tickets, arrest,s and vehicles being towed
  • Avoid the area if you are not participating in the event, as heavy traffic congestion is expected during registration times
  • Drive responsibly by staying sober, obeying all traffic laws and being mindful of pedestrians and other vehicles
  • Follow the directions of law enforcement officers on the scene
  • Be smart and have fun, but make safe and responsible choices throughout the event

“We want everyone to enjoy the Syracuse Nationals, but safety remains our top priority,” said representatives from the agencies in a joint statement. “Reckless behavior on public roads will not be tolerated. Our officers will be out in force to keep roadways safe for participants, spectators, and the community.”
