Lincoln woman accused of leaving three children in cockroach-infested home

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A Lincoln woman was arrested Wednesday after officers removed her three children from what police call a filthy, cockroach-infested home.

Shortly before noon, officers were dispatched to a residence near 11th Street and Barker Lane after three children ages 2, 5 and 7 asked their neighbor to call 911 as the two-year-old had gotten something stuck up his nose.

After the child was medically cleared by EMS, police say they attempted to contact and locate the children’s mother after a neighbor said she had seen her in the past. Lincoln Fire and Rescue alerted officers that nobody, including the children’s mother, Susan Taban, 26, was home.

As Lincoln Police attempted to locate Taban, officers brought the children back into their home. Officers say that upon entering, they observed filthy living conditions including flies everywhere, a residue of possible feces on all the flooring, trash on the floor and counters and multiple nests of roaches and other bugs in various places…
