Former Seward County deputy appeals manslaughter case

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) — The former Seward County deputy indicted by a grand jury for manslaughter is appealing his case.

Anthony Gann, 29, is accused of shooting and killing Jorge Luis Santana-Ramirez, 43, of Hastings, during a pursuit on I-80 on Oct. 23, 2023. He pled not guilty to the charge at his initial court appearance on April 29, 2024.

The filing comes after Lancaster County District Judge Susan Strong overruled several of Gann’s motions to either toss the case or reduce the charge. Gann is now asking the Nebraska Court of Appeals to assess his arguments and the decision issued by the lower court…
