Charlotte crime stats show decline in first half of 2025, police say

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Overall crime in Charlotte fell by 8% in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period the year before, officers announced.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg police department released its crime statistics for the first half of the year on Thursday morning, July 17. That time period ran from the beginning of January to the end of June.

In addition to that 8% drop, officers noted a 25% drop in violent crime and a 5% decrease in property crime compared to the first half of 2024.
