Man arrested after high-speed chase and crash in Randolph County

RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — A 42-year-old man is facing a long list of charges after leading deputies on a high-speed chase through Asheboro that ended in a crash and a foot pursuit earlier this month.

According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, the incident took place on July 10 when deputies attempted a traffic stop on US Highway 220 South. The driver, later identified as Jeffrey Lee Needham, refused to pull over and accelerated instead.

As Needham’s vehicle approached 2225 South Fayetteville Street, it suddenly slowed down, veered into a parking lot, and struck a wooden pole that supported a metal barrier.
