INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — After more than seven decades missing in action, U.S. Army Master Sergeant Wallace Simmons Jr. is returning home. Flanner Buchanan will assist in laying Simmons to rest.
Simmons was reported missing in action during World War ll in North Korea, and he was presumed dead on Dec. 31, 1953. His certificate of death lists his official date of death as Dec. 6, 1950. On June 20, 2024, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency officially announced that his remains had been identified.
At 1 p.m. Saturday, Flanner Buchanan will host a military graveside service with full honors at Washington Park East Cemetery, Section A, to honor Simmons’ life and legacy. His cremated remains will be interred at Washington Park East Cemetery on his mother Agnes’ grave, reuniting them. The public is invited to honor his life and service to our country…
