CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Fifty-six years ago this week, astronaut Neil Armstrong coined one of the most famous lines in American history when he became the first person to walk on the moon.
But you wouldn’t have heard that line if it weren’t for engineers at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids.
Hundreds of employees at the facility worked on the communications technology that made Armstrong’s “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” possible to be heard back on Earth. (Whether it was “for man” or “for a man” is disputed, but we’re going with Smithsonian historians.)…
