A 24-year-old man who had an active warrant in a gun case since last August has been arrested and charged in a string of armed robberies that targeted victims in Lakeview, Old Town, and Edgewater during the early morning hours of May 18, according to Chicago police.
Larry Countee, 24, has been arrested by CPD 15 times since he became an adult in 2019. Police say he now faces three felony counts of armed robbery with a firearm and one count of attempted armed robbery with a firearm.
Authorities allege Countee participated in four robberies that unfolded within 90 minutes:
- 1:00 a.m.: A 22-year-old man reported being robbed at gunpoint near Southport Avenue and Roscoe Street. He told officers that two men took his valuables and fled in a vehicle. The victim hid in a gangway until officers arrived.
- 1:12 a.m.: A 25-year-old woman was confronted near her home in the 1100 block of West Grace Street. She told police the robbers—one wearing a ski mask—took her phone and other belongings, then forced her to unlock the device before driving away in a white car.
- 1:30 a.m.: A 22-year-old woman was robbed in the 1200 block of North Sedgwick Street.
- 2:30 a.m.: A 39-year-old woman was targeted in the 1000 block of West Berwyn Avenue. No further details were released.
