What is an “Extreme Heat Warning”?The National Weather Service renamed its old “Excessive Heat Warning” to Extreme Heat Warning in March 2025 to use clearer language and better signal life‑threatening heat. Heat Advisory stayed the same. Warning criteria for this generally kick’s in when the heat index reaches about 110° or higher (Heat advisory around 105°). Different NWS offices can tweak thresholds, but the bottom line is unchanged: dangerous heat, take action now.
