Intoxicated woman runs into Lake Mendota to escape officers

MADISON, Wis. — Madison police said an intoxicated woman ran into Lake Mendota Tuesday afternoon in an attempt to evade officers.

Officers were called to James Madison Park at around 4:36 p.m. for a welfare check. When officers approached the woman, she ran into the lake and swam away.

The woman reportedly refused officers’ calls to swim to shore, and eventually a UW-Madison Police Department boat was deployed to the area…
