Officer who killed Amir Locke leading MPD use of force training program

There are concerns about how the City of Minneapolis is approaching police reform. The Minneapolis police officer who shot and killed Amir Locke is leading the department’s use-of-force training program.

Sgt. Mark Hanneman shot and killed Amir Locke in 2022, as part of a SWAT team serving a no-knock warrant, although Hanneman was never criminally charged.

“We are deeply concerned about the promotion of Mark Hanneman,” says Michelle Gross, president of Communities United Against Police Brutality. “You cannot tell me they couldn’t find somebody else who’s more well qualified and who hasn’t been a problem to the community, to be a trainer and train on use of force.”…
