WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A 23-year-old man entered a plea of guilty to the criminal desecration of a Wichita Catholic Church. The vandalism was discovered on March 15 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 2007 N. Arkansas Ave. Wichita police said they found significant damage, including hate speech graffiti, destroyed religious items, and a burned U.S. flag.
At a hearing on Friday, 23-year-old Michael A. Gonzalez withdrew his plea of not guilty and changed his plea to guilty for burglary, criminal desecration, theft, and criminal damage to property.
Gonzalez told the judge that he had been recently released from prison. He also stated that he was on heroin and fentanyl and was going through mental issues when he entered the church to commit the damage…
