Waste Management settlement prompts major reforms in Northern Nevada

A landmark legal case has led to significant changes in Waste Management’s commercial collection practices across Northern Nevada.

Following six years of litigation, a major settlement has been reached involving exclusive franchise agreements with the cities of Reno, Sparks, Carson City, and Washoe County.

The lawsuit, filed on behalf of a commercial property owner, alleged that Waste Management created an unpredictable waste collection system. Property managers reported being unable to anticipate pickup times, which ranged from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m., leading to unintentional overflows and excessive overage fees.
