East TN parents fear health care disruptions as contract talks falter

KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WATE) — People insured by BlueCross BlueShield Tennessee could no longer be in-network with Summit Medical Group practitioners after the medical group said it has been unable to reach an agreement for an updated contract.

Summit sent a formal notice to the heath insurance provider informing them of the non-renewal, which would go into effect January first.

While they are still in negotiations, people said this puts them in a situation to either continue using BlueCross BlueShield and go to another practitioner, or they would have to find a new insurance, or pay out of pocket, to see the same doctors they have been going to for years.
