Auburn man at center of multi-agency Alabama raid appears in court

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – The man at the center of a multi-agency federal raid at businesses and homes across central and south Alabama was in court Friday for an initial appearance.

Cesar Campos-Reyes, 52, of Auburn, was brought to the federal courthouse in downtown Montgomery where a judge read the charges against him. He then entered a plea of not guilty and waived his right to a speedy trial.

The judge set case for trial on Nov. 3 and a hearing for Wednesday. That hearing will help determine if Campos-Reyes should remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial.

Campos-Reyes was arrested late in the day on Tuesday, hours after federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies executed search warrants at eight Mexican restaurants and six homes and other properties around the state that he’s associated with…
