Two Chicago women, allegedly engaged in a brazen midday theft and subsequent car chase, are confronting new burglary and aggravated fleeing charges. Shawanda Outlaw, 28, and Destiny Jackson, 27, who were both on pre-trial release for prior offenses, apparently decided to make the Oak Brook Alo Yoga store their latest target. According to a press release from the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, the duo reportedly cloaked themselves in stolen apparel and dashed to what they had hoped was freedom, engaging police in a dangerous high-speed pursuit.
The chase, which careened through the streets of Oak Brook on July 14, ended with Chicago police corralling the suspects on I-290. Throughout this reckless attempt to evade, Outlaw and Jackson allegedly weaved through traffic, discarded evidence from their moving vehicle, and brought an unnecessary risk to unsuspecting bystanders and motorists. The State’s Attorney’s Office didn’t hold back in their language, emphasizing the defendants’ blatant disregard for the criminal justice system’s conditions of their release.
“It is alleged that while on pre-trial release for retail theft, Ms. Outlaw and Ms. Jackson thumbed their nose at the criminal justice system and committed yet another crime,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin stated, underscoring the gravity of the situation. The pursuit, reaching speeds of around 82 mph, exhibited the lengths to which the duo was willing to go to sidestep the law.
