Free Concerts Bring Omaha Together This Week

Omaha’s summer concert scene is in full swing this week, offering a trio of free outdoor music events that cater to diverse tastes. Whether you’re a jazz enthusiast, a fan of contemporary hits, or someone seeking a relaxed evening with live tunes, there’s something for everyone.

  • Jazz on the Green | Turner Park | Experience the soulful sounds of jazz at Turner Park in Midtown Crossing every Thursday evening. Lawn opens at 5:00 p.m., with preshow entertainment at 6:30 p.m. and the main performance at 7:30 p.m. This week’s featured act is Shaun Johnson + the Big Band Experience, with a preshow by Matthew Storie.
  • Vibes Summer Concert Series | Village Pointe Shopping Center | Join the fun at Village Pointe Shopping Center tonight as Hardwood Dash takes the stage, delivering an energetic mix of rock and funk that will get you moving. Perfect for all ages and free to attend!
  • Live on the Lawn | Zorinsky Lake | Grab a lawn chair and a cooler and head to Zorinsky Lake for an evening of live music from eNVy, a local Omaha cover band playing classic and modern hits that’ll have everyone singing along! This concert series is organized by the City of Omaha Parks and Recreation Department.

What’s Next for The Union? A Creative Reset with Community at Its Core

After years of growth and impact in North Omaha’s art scene, the Union for Contemporary Art found itself at a crossroads. A major leadership change, public controversy over staffing decisions, and a failed unionization effort tested the institution’s identity and commitment to its founding mission. Now under new Executive Director Lakesha Green, the Union is focused on restructuring and reconnecting with its surrounding Black community while continuing to support Omaha creatives with fellowships, exhibitions, and performances.
