Jury: Georgetown Law professor guilty of assaulting wife in front of their children

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A D.C. jury found a Georgetown Law professor guilty of assaulting his wife in front of their children, following years of emotional and physical abuse, authorities announced Friday.

The charges against 50-year-old Shon Hopwood stem from incidents that happened in April and September 2023, the U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO) detailed following the verdict.

On Sept. 21, 2023, Hopwood and his wife got into an ongoing argument in front of their children. He then assaulted her when she tried to grab her phone and purse from their shared bedroom, repeatedly pushing and throwing her out into the kitchen.
